contributed to return youtube dislike, an open-source browser extension that restores the dislike count on youtube after google removed it in late 2021.

what i did

  • designed UI components and built API endpoints in javascript and .NET
  • collaborated with 5 other engineers on data processing pipelines handling millions of user interactions
  • the extension scaled to 20+ million users across chrome and firefox

the project

after youtube hid dislike counts, the extension switched to a backend that combines scraped dislike stats with estimates extrapolated from extension user data. it exposes a public API and has been translated into 20+ languages by 161 contributors.
